The former number 1 in world tennis and winner of 23 Grand Slam titles, Serena Williams, officially announced that she would end her long successful career in September. She did so in an interview with Vogue magazine, whose front cover is titled “Serina’s Farewell.”
This is the hardest thing she has ever imagined. She didn’t want it to end, but at the same time, she is ready for the next step, said the American, who admitted she’s terrified when she has to say goodbye to someone or something.
“I’m here to tell you that I’m retiring from tennis because there are other things that are more important to me,” Serena Williams said. She has to bid an emotional farewell to the sport after her participation in the US Open.
She is currently competing at the Canadian Open in Toronto, where she will face the winner of the second round match between Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic and Czech Theresa Martincova.
